With The Eighth Life (for Brilka), director Nina Spijkers brings the theatrical adaptation of Georgian writer Nino Haratischwili's novel of the same name. A monumental family epic that spans six generations between 1900 and today. This story, about eight lives from one Georgian family, begins in a small town in Georgia. Where, in the coldest winter of the early 20th century, Stasia is born, the daughter of an ambitious chocolate manufacturer. Generations later, Nitsa, great-granddaughter of Stasia, lives in Berlin and compellingly recounts, with much irony and humour, her family's dramatic history. A history inextricably linked to that of the 'red' 20th century - a crucial period in European history - with the rise and fall of the Soviet Union and the fall of the Iron Curtain.
